I’tikaaf

I’tikaaf

I’tikaaf I’tikaaf in the last ten days of Ramadān is an emphasized communal Sunnah (Sunna al-kifaayah). The men are to do it in the Masjid and the women in an area designated in their home for Salaat.(Al Durrul Mukhtar vol 2 pg 440-441) Whilst making I’tikaaf, one is allowed to leave the Masjid either due to a Shari’ reason such as having to leave to perform the Jumuah Salaat (because this facility is not available where he is making I’tikaaf) or a natural reason such as to urinate or excuse himself or in an emergency like in the case of compulsion. (Tahtawi ala Maraaqil Falaah pg702-703) It is permissible for...

Is one Qurbani sufficient on behalf of a family or is each eligible person required to do his/her own Qurbani?...

Questions: Is one Qurbani sufficient on behalf of a family or is each eligible person required to do his/her own Qurbani? Answer: As Salaamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullah wa Barakatuh Many people have a misunderstanding that one animal is sufficient on behalf of a whole family. This is not the case. Rather, each individual who fulfills the required conditions of Qurbani must make Qurbani on his own behalf. A collective Qurbani will not be permissible. (Reference: Aap ke Masaail aur un ka hal vol 4 pg 170) AND ALLAH TA’AALA KNOWS...

Is it permissible to obtain a tax receipt when one makes a Zakaat donation?...

Question: Is it permissible to obtain a tax receipt when one makes a Zakaat donation? Answer: As Salaamu Alaikum wa Rarahmatullah wa Barakatuh One needs to understand the concept of tax receipt and how it functions in order for one to understand the Masa’lah. Income tax is paid to the government from the recipient of the income on an annual basis. At the end of the tax year when tax returns are filed, the government refunds or reduces the tax liability based on a percentage of donation made to registered charities recognized by the government. Hence, the money which is refunded or tax liability reduced is from the government and it does not reduce the amount of donation...

Teeth Adjustment

Teeth Adjustment

posted on: Jun 9, 2013 | author: admin

Question: I had my teeth straightened with braces as they were slightly crowded. The crookedness wasn’t too visible and I didn’t feel any discomfort from it. My orthodontist told me that the adjustment was more for cosmetic purpose and I didn’t really need it since my teeth were not so bad that I couldn’t bite like a normal person. But he said my teeth would be properly aligned and look better so I might as well do it anyway. After wearing braces for over a year, I am almost done but I am now worried if this is impermissible because I am making an amendment to my body which is not necessary for my health. If it is not permissible I could stop the treatment where it is and this should cause no harm. Answer: As Salaamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh We applaud you on the concern that...

Question: Assalamualaykum I wanted to know what is the reason of starting a book on Wednesday…. like any kitaab why do teachers usually start on a Wednesday if they are starting a new book? jzk Answer:  As Salaamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh There is mention in some books of a hadith that any task that is started or undertaken on a Wednesday, will come to completion. However, the Scholars of Hadith have debated as to whether this is a Hadith or not. Their discussion is mentioned in Al Maqasid ul Hasanah. All’amah Abdul Hai Lakhnawi (Rahimahullah) mentions that I searched for the original of this Hadith and I found the following narration. Jabir Radhiallah Anhu narrates that Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi wa Sallam made dua in Masjid Fatah for three consecutive days; Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The dua of the Messenger Salallahu Alaihi wa Sallam was accepted on Wednesday...

I want to know what is referred to when a person says the time of zawaal? Does zawaal and istiwaa mean the same thing or are they different?...

Question: As Salaamu Alaikum: I want to know what is referred to when a person says the time of zawaal? Does zawaal and istiwaa mean the same thing or are they different? Please elaborate. Jazak-Allah Answer: As Salaamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh Zawaal is the term used in common parlance (for the prohibited time); whereas in actual fact Istiwaa is meant, for at Zawaal i.e. when the sun ceases to rise and starts to decline, one is permitted to perform Salaah. This is the time when Zuhr Salaah time comes in. It is just a matter of the term Zawaal having become the commonly used word to denote Istiwaa. قوله إستوائها-التعبير به أولى من التعبير بوقت الزوال لأن و قت الزوال لا تكره فيه الصلاة إجماعًا (نور الإيضاح ص 59 حاشية 5) Istiwaa is calculated as specifically the mid time between sunrise and sunset. It lasts for approximately...

Keeping Back Straight and doing Sajdah Properly

Keeping Back Straight and doing Sajdah Properly...

posted on: Apr 23, 2013 | author: admin

Question: Is it waajib to keep the back straight during ruku and is it wajib to keep the the legs straight and keep a space between the legs and stomach in sajdah? If one misses this, is sajdah-sahw necessary for the salaah to be completed? Answers:  Dear brother, Assalâmu’alaikum Warahmatullâhi Wabarakâtuh 1) It is understood from the text of  the Fuqaha that the “Fardh Ruku” which is minimally required in Salaah composes of bending the back to the extent that a person’s hands reach his knees. If this is acquired, then the Salaah will be permissible. Hence it can be understood that to keep the back and legs straight is not wajib in Salaah and Sajdah sahw will not be necessary if one leaves it out. However, the Sunnah method of performing ruku comprises of bending the back till it is straight and aliening it, the posteriors and the head, keeping the legs straight and grasping on to the...

Question: Do we the Ahnaaf have any proof from the Ahadith supporting: 1)  Imam standing by the chest of the mayyit in Janazah Salaah & 2)  Making the whole body of the mayyit facing the Qiblah while it is placed in the grave Answers: As Salaamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullah We received your query wherein you asked questions regarding a deceased and Salaatul Janazah. 1) The preferable view according to the Imam Abu Hanifah Rahimahullah is that the Imam will stand adjacent to the (in line with) the chest of the deceased whether the deceased is male or female, when performing the Janazah Salaah. (Halabi Kabir Pg: 506) This view is supported by the following Hadith: Samurah bin Jundub Radhiallahu Anhu says, I performed Janazah Salaah behind Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam on a women who had passed away in her post natal bleeding (after giving birth) Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam...
